Sian Warren, Senior Creature Modeler
Sian Warren is a Creature Modeler with over 8 years of experience, working for large VFX houses like ILM London, MPC Film character Lab and Trixter. Starting out on ILMs Jedi Academy Graduate scheme, concepting and creating prehistoric creatures for Netflix: Life on Our Planet to an anatomical deep dive into lions and character design for Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King. She has worked on a broad range of species; alive, extinct and alien for films, advertising and tv production to publications with The Society of Vertebrate Palaeontology; collaborating alongside Professor of Biology: Dr Stuart Sumida. She is now working as a Freelance Snr Creature Artist with Facts Dinosaurs, Exetinct and creating educational model tutorials with FXPHD.

Industry mentor for CG 101 Portfolio review sessions - focus on characters/creature for film, tv, games and adverts
In this presentation, Sian will demonstrate and discuss how artists can benefit from exploring scientific research to strengthen their design process and anatomical understanding. Utilising fossil data, CT scans and scientific illustrations, to help guide us in creating realistic depictions of prehistoric life using Zbrush.
This course offers a grounded, professional approach to building realistic organic creatures for visual effects. Using the Giganotosaurus as a case study, Sian walks you through the end-to-end process of sculpting, detailing, and preparing a creature asset for production. Whether refining your modeling workflow or aiming to work at a studio level, the course provides a clear and structured path through the creature modeling pipeline.
You’ll cover concept sculpting, the importance of strong reference and research, and how clean topology and organised UVs benefit downstream departments. The course also dives into skin detailing, scale flow, and asymmetry, demonstrating how subtle sculpting decisions can help introduce narrative elements and realism to your models. The final asset is presented through dailies-style turntable renders, offering a professional-quality finish. Tools used include ZBrush, Mudbox, and Maya.
BFX Summer Mentorship for Model.
BFX Easter Jam Mentorship for model/texture category. Main theme is Sustainability 'Life on Land' with a focus on deforestation for the categories reviewed. I took part in two, two-hour zoom sessions giving industry feedback on students work. From inital concept to final renders; with a focus on anatomy, form, functional topology for deformation, texturing and shot composition.

Worked on a collaborative project with Dr Stuart Sumida, anatomical consult for Disney, called ‘PATTERNS’. Using Zbrush; with morphing, interpolation and extrapolation techniques alongside scientific data, I reconstructed extinct group of pelycosaurs. While doing so, forming a hypothesis generator, for the plausible intermediate species - that potentially fills the gaps within our current knowledge, for use by students, artist and palaeontologist.
Limnoscelis-Sphenacodon-Dimetrodon. From these initial 3 species, I created 7 models that depict the potential development stages, filling the evolutionary gap. This tool was later proven invaluable, as it accurately generated a known species called Ctenospondylus, through the process of interpolation.
